Pest control recommendations, vegetable varieties, seed propagation, greener lawns, fertilizers, weed control, and soil fertility are just a few programs offered by UT Extension through educational programs, farm and landowner visits, demonstrations, and publications.

> Distance Diagnostics Learning

UT Extension in Grundy County is equipped with the most advanced technology in the state so that all insect, disease, fungal, nemotode, and pathogen problems can be identified and stopped quickly. Two high powered microscopes and a digital camera capture digital images of "pesky pest problems" and send them via the worldwide web to the Pest Diagnostics Center. Most pest problems can be identified within the day.
 
> Soil Testing

UT Extension in Grundy County offers information and soil testing boxes for pH and nutrient analysis and fertilizer recommendations. The soil is shipped to the University of Tennessee Soil Lab at a cost of $6.00/basic sample plus postage. Collect samples from at least 20 random locations in the area(not to exceed 10 acres) to be tested and place them in a clean container to transport them to our office. It takes 1/2 pint of soil to fill the box. Your results are returned via mail and/or e-mail within 5-14 days .

 
> Private Applicator Pesticide Certification/Re-certification

Private Applicator Pesticide Certification and Re-certification Training is offered to producers wishing to purchase restricted use pesticides. The cost is $10.00 per applicant made payable to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The certification training takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete and the re-certification takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete. Call the Extension office to schedule an appointment for training sessions.
